Bathroom Design Trends 2017
It can be easy to think of the bathroom as a purely functional room with a couple of basic decorative elements thrown in for some colour. But as the bathroom design trends for 2017 show, there are lots of ways to make the bathroom a pleasant space with plenty of personality.
Suite styles
One of the big trends for this year with regards to the bathroom suite is the freestanding bath. These have a real luxury element to them and come in different shapes as well as with a range of fittings to further personalise the look. You do need to speak to a plumber if you are considering this as not every bathroom can hold this kind of bath.
Wall mounted faucets
Again, one for a plumber’s advice before buying, wall mounted faucets have a luxury look and feel to them but do require special plumbing to make them work. If you can go for them, then they look great as a contrast to walls – say brass against white walls or shiny chrome against dark walls.
Tile trends
Patterned tiles are a continued trend for 2017 and can work in rooms of all shapes and sizes. If you have a medium or larger bathroom, then Mediterranean motifs are a trendy look while Moroccan inspired patterns have been popular for a while now. If you don’t want to go for a regional style, geometric shapes are an effective way to get on trend without being too specific.
Feature furniture
Even the smallest bathroom can have some feature furniture to add function and personality to the space. For example, a big trend in Stourbridge and the surrounding area is using minimalist cabinets that don’t require too much room and work perfectly alongside colourful walls or cold tile patterns. The addition of simple designs of knobs and handles adds a touch of metal while keeping within the trend.
Round mirrors
Because cupboards and other features in the bathroom tend to be square, we tend to add square mirrors to the space. But this year the trend to is opt for round ones instead, breaking up the lines of the room. You can go minimalize, quirky or have a coloured edging that matches your accent colour.
Quirky artwork
Many of us will admit to having a water or beach theme to the artwork in the bathroom because it just seems to fit with all the room. But the trend for this year is to go with quirky and unusual artwork that is more about your tastes than its location. Modern prints, wallpaper prints in frames and fun printables are ideal for the space and can use the focus colour for the space.
Eye-catching light fixtures
We often have fancy lighting in the living room, kitchen and bedroom so why not the bathroom too? This year’s trend is to use eye-catching light fixtures to even small bathrooms to make them more luxurious and personalised. From colourful pendants to glamorous chandelier, there are lots of ideas to choose from to add that touch to the bathroom.
